There is nothing more inviting than a cosy sofa on a cold Sunday afternoon!
The dark nights are drawing in and the weather is getting cooler, central heating is being put on and there is perhaps nothing more inviting as a warm, cosy
sofa with a hot drink, a bar of chocolate, a glass of wine or snuggled up reading a book or watching a good film on the television. As the days and nights are getting cooler and darker most of us are looking for a little extra comfort in our lives. Generally for most people the sofa is the focal point of the main sitting or family room and represents a haven of peace and tranquillity, although the sofa can also be a great place to spend quality time with family and friends. Whether we want to relax or chat with others a comfy sofa is an ideal refuge.
Settling down into a warm comfortable sofa is a great way to end the day or enjoy the evening. A sofa can be made more comfortable by adding some cosy cushions and perhaps a warm throw to pull over the sofa or lie on. Cushions with soft or fluffy covers can be warm and inviting, it is easy to buy cushion covers made from chenille, velvet or wool and very often it is possible to get these second hand or to even make them from material scraps. Loose covers can be put over most sofas, these could be made from warm or fleecy materials.
Adding a rug to the floor in front of the sofa, or moving the sofa closer to a fire can make the room and sofa warmer and more attractive. Perhaps putting your feet up on a pouffe or snuggling down under a fleecy blanket listening to the wind and rain outside. Put extra cushions of the sofa and have them in varying sizes and different materials, deeper richer colours can add to the room ambience.
Rooms can be made to feel warmer and softer, perhaps with some subdued lighting or even candles with seasonal fragrances, simple measures that can make us feel more cosy and content. Many people are now starting to suffer with colds and flus and settling down for the evening on a comfy sofa can help the sufferer to feel better. Many of us can remember childhood illnesses and being settled on a sofa with a warm blanket, perhaps even a water bottle and having a fevered brow mopped or hot drinks being provided.
