Fining ways to restore the sofa and give it a new lease of life!

Due to the nature of a sofa and the frequency with which it is used, it is a common occurrence for this particular piece of furniture to become tired and worn looking. However, unlike other household items the sofa is somewhat more difficult to replace especially when cost is considered. It therefore seems more practical and sensible, within today’s economic climate, to find ways to restore the sofa and give it a new lease of life than to buy a new one.

One of the easiest and probably most cost effective ways of disguising a sofa’s age is by investing in some soft furnishings. A simple throw or blanket placed over the sofa can hide all the wear and tear it has endured. However, it is important to ensure that the material and tone of the chosen throw complements the existing colour scheme within the room. In addition the use of throws makes it possible to be more adventurous, bold, vibrant colours can really catch the eye, but if they are too daring it is always possible to change it and go for something less daring.

A common problem with sofas is that the covers become loose and they begin to look untidy. However, this particular problem can be remedied by a spending a little extra on custom fitting covers, which will fit the sofa to perfection.
Although this option is slightly more expensive it is still only a fraction of the cost of a new sofa and it provides a long lasting solution to the problem. There is also a great selection of slip-covers, available at a range of prices in many specialist shops. The use of covers such as these can really transform a sofa and make it look new again. For those who can competently use a sewing machine, there also exists the possibility of making slip covers. This option means that whatever design of slip cover can be made and in addition to this it is cost effective.

If a sofa has become dirty and discoloured then it is possible that all it needs it a simple clean to bring it back to life. This can be done by hiring a specialist machine, along with degreaser and shampoo from a local DIY hire shop. Hiring a machine for the day, along with the cleansers should cost around £15 to £25. It is also possible to have the sofa steam-cleaned by experts, for a three piece suite such an activity will cost between £70 and £100. The deep steam-cleaning process can restore vibrant colour to even the shabbiest of sofas.

The simple addition of new cushions can totally transform a tired looking sofa. There are a vast array of styles and fabrics to add style and elegance to even the plainest item of furniture. You can choose to tone with current colours or add a dash of colour, depending on your mood. Most High Street department stores stock cushions and accessories of all colours, fabrics, styles and sizes. They can also be found on the market at knock-down, affordable prices, so cheaply that they can be swapped and changed as the mood takes you.

So whenever starts to look tired and worn it does not necessarily mean that a new sofa needs to be bought. Rather a range of solutions exist on the high street which will restore the sofa and transform it into something elegant and stylish.
