Ottomans are a versatile and very stylish addition to any living room.

Ottomans are an instant way to get more seating when you are entertaining or have guests drop around. Depending on the style and fabric you choose, they can also double as a footstool or even a coffee table.

Traditional ottomans, sometimes called ‘pouffes’ come in a wide range of beautiful fabrics, often made of silk, leather or hand embroidered. To make them fit in with the rest of the living room furniture, a couple of cushions and an exotic rug in a similar theme can be added.

If you like to match your furniture, look for the coordinating ottoman or footstool when you buy your sofa. Most sofa ranges come with matching footstools and it could save you the trouble of searching for an ottoman with a similar fabric colour, texture and design later down the track!

Modern furniture design trends have reinvented the ottoman as more of cube shape, and they come in a wide range of fabric, leather and suede coverings. The advantage of the fabric cube ottomans is that you’ll be able to find slipcovers of the same size easily when you’re in need of a change. Alternatively, if you have a leather sofa, you’re sure to find an ottoman in the same colour leather that will match your existing sofa once it has had the chance to age.
