Sofas given as a wedding gift may seem to be rather extravagant.

When it comes to getting married most people tend to make a list of all the things that they would ideally like to receive as wedding presents. Such lists generally feature things such as fine china dinner sets, wine glasses or gifts of an ornamental nature. However, sofas have never traditionally featured on this particular list, although if recent news is anything to go by it is possible that this might be changing.

When two brothers in Iowa, USA announced that they both intending to marry their respective partners, the brothers’ grandfather knew exactly which present he was going to give each of his grandsons. The grandfather decided that he would make each of his grandsons and their wives in to be a sofa. All the brides and grooms have to do is choose the fabric they wish their respective sofas to be upholstered in.

A wedding gift such as a sofa may at first glance appear rather extravagant however, upon reflection it is possible to see the sentimental value that can be attached to such a gift. When such time and effort is spent crafting such a personal gift there is no possible way that this type of gift cannot become sentimental. Each time the newly married couple sit down on their sofa together after a hard day’s work they can reflect on the happy memories they share of their wedding day and of the giver of the gift. In addition, a sofa is a gift that be kept forever so those memories can never be lost. Even when as the sofa gets old and becomes worn, the couple can retain it as all they have to do is reupholster it.

Granted it takes a lot of skill, time and effort to craft such a wonderful gift and consequently anyone who lacks any of the aforementioned will not be eligible to give a hand crafted sofa as a wedding gift. So whether this particular trend takes off remains to be seen, but regardless of that it is fair to say that this is a wonderful idea which provides newlywed couples not only with a functional and practical item which they can use on a daily basis but also with an item which provides them with a great deal of sentimental and emotional value.
