The Future of Sofas

The revolutionary Brainwave sofa comes under criticism due to its lack of comfort.
The latest thing in the world of sofas is the Brainwave
sofa. Created and designed by Lucas Maassen and Dires Verbruggen this sofa is being regarded as something rather revolutionary. This sofa is like no other sofa available on the market and at first glance one could be forgiven for thinking that the unusual shape of this sofa is what makes it so different from all the other sofas. Although the shape of the sofa is extremely to different to anything anyone has ever seen it is actually the way in which the designers came up with the design of this particular sofa that makes it revolutionary.
Maassen, one of the co designers underwent a brain scan for three seconds and whilst this procedure was being carried out he thought of the word “comfort”. The graph which was later depicted as a result of this brain scan then formed the blueprint for the design of the sofa. The data produced as a result of the brain scan was used to make a three dimensional form, after this had been done the foam was carefully cut to reflect this shape.
This sofa and its designers have the topic of much discussion recently, largely due to their unusual design methods and the futuristic nature of this particular style of sofa. In fact the sofa recently went on display at the Bits n’ Pieces design exhibition in New York. However, despite the fact that this sofa is a popular topic of conversation it remains to be seen whether it will be a popular in terms of sales.
First and foremost, although the co designer of the Brainwave sofa was thinking of comfort at the time of the scan the unusual shape and style of this sofa fails to suggest that it would be comfortable to sit or recline on. There is no disputing that in the right home this particular piece could make a impact and become a focal point in the home. However, the practical and functional use of this sofa is somewhat limited. What’s more given the high tech procedures that the designers undertook in order to produce this sofa it is likely that this sofa would be rather expensive to purchase.
Whether this is the future of sofas remains unknown. However, sofas are meant to comfortable items of furniture, which people relax upon and snuggle up on to watch TV or read a book. So with that in mind it seems probable that people will continue to favour their more traditional style of sofa over this revolutionary, futuristic style Brainwave sofa.
