The traditional January sales are almost upon us and, for many, this is the best time to choose one of those all-important big-ticket items, the
sofa. Some retailers offer price reductions so huge that people willingly queue up for hours in the cold weather, to be first in line as soon as the store opens on sale day.
The sofa is one of the most expensive items a homeowner has to buy, and he will want value for his hard-earned money. The new family sofa may have initially been so expensive that purchasing it could only be a dream, but a store that offers realistic reductions will enable even those on a limited budget to buy something that would normally be beyond them.
It’s well worth waiting until sale time before purchasing such a big item because it ensures that you get the maximum possible value for money.
The rules for buying furniture in the sales are the same that the purchaser should apply when buying at the full retail price. With sale items, the retailer will point out any defects or faults so that the purchaser knows exactly what he is buying. When choosing a sofa, always try it out in the way that it would be used at home; this means sitting on it and, if family members tend to lie on the sofa, lying on it, too. As long as you remove your shoes first, a good retailer will not mind you doing this. He will want to make sure you are happy with your purchase once it is in your home.
To make sure your new sofa fits straight into its new setting, it’s important to measure the room first, remembering to measure the doorways through which it will have to be carried. Standard internal doors vary in size from 27” to 32” so check them, then take the tape measure with you to the furniture store to measure the sofa.
The best part of choosing a new sofa is deciding on the style, type of fabric, and colour. You may decide to go for something traditional or neutral which will fit into any colour scheme or you may choose one that is quite bold then decorate the room to match or complement it. Today, there are so many exciting styles and colours to choose from that there is something to suit everyone. The choice may be difficult but, once you have made it, you will soon have the sofa of your dreams in its rightful place - in the sitting room where the family can really enjoy it.
