Sofas Make a Statement

Nothing beats a sofa for relaxing in, especially after a hard day at work, or on a cold winter’s afternoon in front of the fire watching a film.
The real beauty of
sofas are that it has room for the whole family to relax on and enjoy each other’s company, as well as offering a luxurious amount of room for just one person. Its other important task is to give a focal point to a sitting room, and the designs and colours available today offer a chance for a sofa to make a real statement.
For those choosing a brand new sofa, no longer is the choice limited by traditional colours and styles. Sofas have come a long way from their one-time role of simply providing practical seating. Nowadays, they are a work of art on their own and, in some cases, set the colour and design for an entire room.
If you want your sofa to truly reflect your personality and lifestyle, then you will need to take time choosing its design and colour, remembering that you can also enhance it with accessories like throws and cushions. Choose something bold and it can be softened with pastel accents. If you want the room itself to make the statement, choose a sofa with a neutral base and a traditional shape so that it doesn’t clash with the décor. Again, a really plain sofa can be dressed up with the right accessories.
Of course, to be a real focal point, a sofa needs to be put in the right place. As the biggest item in any room, it will be the first thing that anyone looks at, and, because it is for sitting on, people will gravitate towards it. For this reason, where it is sited is very important. If it is placed in the middle of a room with space around it, it could look cumbersome and too big for the room but, against a long wall with, perhaps, some stunning art work above it in colours that coordinate, it will look stunning.
The size of a sofa is important, too. Nowadays, sofas can accommodate from two to four, maybe five, people. A two-seater would look lost in a large high-ceilinged room but would look just right in the sitting-room of a little cottage, so care needs to be taken when choosing it to ensure that it does nothing but enhance its surroundings once it is taken to its new home.
