Leave the cold winter weather at the door and create and warm and cosy feel wihtin your living room.
The weather in the UK continues to worsen with more snow expected this week up and down the country. It is therefore little wonder that people want to create a sanctuary of warmth within their own homes.
A change to the interior of a home can result in a significant change in the tone and mood created within that home. Consequently, for those who want to create a feeling of warmth for the long winter nights, it is something that can be achieved very easily.
It is advisable to concentrate all efforts on the living room as this is the room where most time is likely to be spent during the evenings and it is further likely to be the room where the family comes together. The focal point of most living rooms tends to be the
sofa so it seems logical to begin by focusing on this particular item of furniture.
To create a feeling of warmth within the living room why not consider opting for a sofa which reflects autumn or earth tones? Chocolate browns, creams and beiges are great at creating a sense of warmth and furthermore the neutrality of these colours makes it easy for decor changes to be introduced in the future. However, sofas are expensive items and as such not everyone who would like a change in their interior design can afford a new sofa.
However, it is possible to keep your current sofa but completely transform it into something new. One way of doing this is through the use of soft furnishings. By incorporating a number of cushions in varying colours to the sofa depth and texture can be added to the sofa. Furthermore the inclusion of throws and blankets are a great option as not only do they disguise the sofa which lies beneath but they are also great for cosying up to a cold winter’s night.
In terms of colours scheme, it is possible to mix and match soft with deep tones to create the desired look. For example opt for a soft brown throw and accessorise with cushions in rich tones such as plum or vice a versa. It is also advisable to incorporate different textures in order to enhance the sense of depth created by the cushions and throws.
Furthermore if there is fireplace within the living room adjust the furniture, if possible, so that the sofa is facing the fire. A lit fire within a room creates a fantastic atmosphere and makes the living room much more inviting to both the family and guest alike.
However, for those homes without a fireplace it is possible to create a similar atmosphere through the use of candles and lighting. By using lamps rather than the main light in the living room soft lighting is created which adds to the warmness of the room. Moreover this feeling can be enhanced with the use of a few strategically placed candles.
It is therefore possible to create a snug and warm sanctuary that is free from the cold elements for all of the family to enjoy without having to expend large amounts of energy or money.
