Sofa taste: the great divider

View all news stories

Buying a sofa is one of those decisions that are largely subjective and very personal to the individual.

Many couples are lucky enough to have the same tastes and ideas when it comes to design, music, and art more generally. For others clashes in taste may cause problems, especially when decisions need to be made that rely almost solely on taste.

Buying a sofa is one of those decisions that are largely subjective and very personal to the individual. It is often the case that one individual within a couple will be able to communicate their ideas about design more eloquently and will end up taking the lead in this area of the decision making process.

In other instances couples may have very different ideas about what styles of sofa they like. If this is the case it is often a good idea to concentrate on the factors that can be agreed on and work from there. Do you agree on the budget? Is there a certain type of fabric that you both think would be best? Do you agree on the size of sofa you require? Is there a specific brand you both like? Factors such as these should help to narrow down the available options.

Once the options have been narrowed down as much as possible it should be a lot easier to work through any differences in taste. If there are still problems maybe it might be time to get a third opinion from mutual friends whose opinions is trusted.
