You don’t need to fly to Morocco to get inspired on how to introduce the look to your home, here’s some ideas you can get started on today

Add a taste of the exotic to your living room with furniture, home wares and some simple decorating that will add some Moroccan inspired warmth and mystery.

You’ve probably already Moroccan style furniture and home wares hitting your favourite stores. This year, expect to see more as the trend is forecast to continue for 2008.

You don’t need to fly to Morocco to get inspired on how to introduce the look to your home, here’s some ideas you can get started on today:

Colours: Think deliciously deep colours, like dark reds, maroon purples and emerald greens.

Fabrics: Lavish embroidered silks are used heavily in the Moroccan look. Decorative cushions and throw rugs made from North African textiles will add some spice to your sofaand some charm to your armchair!

Lighting: Add a coloured glass lantern with a candle on your coffee table or change to softer light bulbs and rich red coloured lampshades.

Furniture: Moroccan inspired furnishing features pressed tin, carvings and mosaic. If you don’t want to get too stuck down in one trend, pick a fairly neutral style sofa in a plain colour like a rich red and decorate with cushions and a simple coffee table with an exotic table runner instead. Floor cushions are also heavily used in Morocco and a great way to add some more seating to your living room!

Floor coverings: Morocco prides itself on its Berber and Moorish crafts, one of them being carpet weaving. A woven rug is essential in the Moroccan home and is fantastic for warmth during the cold winter months.

The finishing touches can include a gorgeous silver teapot accompanied with traditional glass teacups. It only takes a little bit of furniture and soft furnishing to turn your living room into an exotic Moroccan retreat!
