Sofas- how important is decor in todays television shows
Sofas are an integral and very important part of any talk show. For shows like Richard and Judy’s, the intended impression given by the hosts and the producers is one of cozy chatting in the sitting room of someone’s home; so the kind of sofa to be found, say, in a gentlemen’s club or a reading library, would be too ostentatious.
A great sofa for a talk show would be very large with deep cushions and large armrests because the host will want his guests to feel comfortable and relaxed; this would be impossible on a sofa that was purchased with only appearance in mind. Some modern sofas these days are made to be more of a fashion statement than something to relax in so choosing the perfect sofa will take a great deal of thought.
The buyer will choose something that is eye-catching in colour because it will become the focal point of the talk show, and they will want it to stand out. Having said that, a good buyer would not select anything heavily patterned because the last thing the host wants is for a guest’s clothing to clash with the furniture on which he is sitting. The best choice would be something in a brightly-coloured but plain or textured fabric, with some contrasting scatter cushions to add a bit of fun as well as comfort.
The sofa would be expected to seat many different people over its working life so the height, as well as the depth, is very important. Shorter guests would not want to find themselves sitting with their feet swinging above the ground but, equally, taller guests don’t want to feel as if they have nowhere to put their legs. The main priority is comfort but looks are almost as important.
It would be cost-effective if the sofa for a talk show could last for many years but this may not be possible because fashions change; a show should reflect this and the producers would naturally want it to be as up-to-date as possible. The sofa will get fairly heavy wear because the set may not be permanent. If it has to be set up before every show, the sofa will spend a lot of its time being moved around and this could cause damage and wear that would not occur with furniture bought for the home.
The talk show is a popular format with television viewers so changing one of the most important parts of it, the sofa itself, on a regular basis, would keep the show contemporary and up-to-date which will be pleasing to the viewers and guests alike. As fashions in furniture change as rapidly as those in clothing, then updating the sofa is a good idea.
