Bring a splash of colour and style to your living room.

If you aim to turn your house into a humble abode, then the best way forward is to start incorporating accessories, bringing personal touchs to your surroundings.

Some view the living room is the most important room in the house. It is the place where people tend to spend most of their time relaxing on the sofa, maybe watching television or entertaining family and friends. With view to this, a living room needs to feel homely and welcoming not forgetting the key ingredient of personal style.

The sofa is usually the largest and most prominent item of furniture in the living room. A sofa needs to be comfortable and practical without forgetting the aesthetics however. By incorporating accessories like cushions and throws you are not only able to bring a sense of personal style to any living room arrangement, but also bring your beloved and much used sofa back to life. A plain sofa with no cushions or throws can often make a plain room look lifeless, drab and miserable. If your sofa does not look inviting, it is highly unlikely that you or your guests will feel relaxed and comfortable. By accessorising your sofa you are injecting an instant “living room lift”, refresh the room and creating a new look that oozes creativity and style.

New sofas can be very expensive, with a view to this a tired looking sofa can be revitalised by the clever use of accessorising. Therefore, soft to the touch throws and colour co-ordinating cushions are perfect remedies for a worn-out looking sofa. Furthermore, a simply sofa throw is an easy and effective way of hiding stains or holes, they are also a good investment if you have pets that like to climb on the sofa. There are vast collections of throws out there. They come in a variety of colours, materials and patterns However, choosing a plain throw allows a lot more flexibility for accessorising with coloured cushions.

Cushions liven up any sofa and the beauty of cushions is that you can change them to suit your mood and bring a new look to your sofa whenever you fancy. Mixing fabrics is a good idea as it adds texture, and cushions which are a mixture of sizes and have accessories such as buttons attached to them creates interest.

If you enjoy spending time watching television on a cold Winter’s evening, a soft fleece style of throw is ideal as they are perfect for wrapping around you to keep warm and cosy. It can sometimes be a good idea to use this on top of another throw, or you can combine textures and colours by using a cotton throw over the whole of the sofa with a fluffy throw over the back or tucked in over the seating cushions. Whatever your preference may be, the great thing about this concept of accessorising is that it is not permanent. Throws and cushions are easily removed, thus giving one the freedom of recreation time and time again.
