Some simple rules to ensure that you gain the perfect luxurious surroundings in which to relax.

The living room, sitting room, parlour, call it what you like, the rooms that contain your sofas should be the comfiest most welcoming rooms in the house. These are the rooms in which you unwind after a hard day, invite your guests to relax, play with your children, enjoy your favourite television programmes or, maybe, listen to your treasured music collection. You will want it to be calming, inviting and peaceful, so the things you put in it should all work towards that goal.

The sofa has to be the most important part of your room, and deserves to be chosen with care and consideration. It should be wide and deep enough to allow you to relax into it completely. This can be achieved firstly by selecting the right one – when you buy it, try it out in the way you would expect to use it at home. The retailer won’t, or shouldn’t, mind if you lie down on it or put your feet up on it. You’ll soon know when you have found the perfect one for you. When you have found the perfect one take a note of the brand, style, size and colour. Searching and finding it online has many benefits, such as improved deals and quicker home delivery services.

Next, add cushions. These days many people use scatter cushions as a fashion statement only, and choose them for their ‘look’ rather than their comfort. In the cosiest of rooms, the cushions will have to be comfortable enough to rest a tired and weary head.

Lighting is one of the most important elements in your comfiest room. Ceiling lights are all very well if you need to read but, for just lazing around, you need lighting that is soft, warm and unobtrusive, and this is where lamps come in. There are so many kinds to choose from, and even the bulbs are important. Pearl bulbs give a softer light that clear ones, and don’t cast so many annoying shadows around a room.

To be able to relax in real comfort, you also need somewhere to put your other important things; you will want to enjoy a cup of tea in your sitting room, so you’ll need a side table or coffee table placed within easy reach. This will also do for somewhere to put your magazines or newspapers, your reading glasses and so on.

A truly comforting touch to add to any living room is a soft warm throw, which can be placed on the sofa to add a bit of style and colour when not in use, but can also be used to help keep you warm on cold Sunday afternoons and in the evenings.

Following these simple rules will ensure that you have luxurious surroundings in which to relax, however hard your day has been.
