Morning TV on the sofa

The British nation is crying “What are we going to do without the lovely Fern Britton to brighten up our mornings?”
After ten years the ever cheery Fern is leaving the
sofa of ITV’s ‘This Morning’ show to explore other things and spend more time with her husband and four children. Over the last few years we have come to think of Fern as our friend rather than just a glossy TV celebrity. She gives the impression of someone who is approachable and down-to-earth: someone we could chat with. Viewers feel they can confide their innermost secrets and that she would be sympathetic and not stand in judgement. She isn’t a super skinny presenter with perfect hair and make up. She has fought public battles with her fluctuating weight, including the much publicised gastric band. Yes Fern Britton is definitely one of us.
Watching breakfast TV is an early morning ritual in many homes all over the country. Many of us do not have the time to read a newspaper so having the opportunity to watch the news on TV whilst munching our cereal is a real bonus, particularly if we have to rush off to work. We can also catch up on the travel news and find out if there are any delays or problems that might affect us. This is particularly important in the winter months when driving conditions may be hazardous. The weather forecast can also tell us whether we need to take umbrellas or sunglasses. A short time relaxing in front of a cosy breakfast show can really set us up for the day, especially if we have busy or stressful jobs.
Mums especially like to enjoy an early morning cup of tea while catching up on the latest news and current affairs. A few minutes quiet is very relaxing before getting the children ready for school and facing the daily rush.
The daily housework is not such a chore when we can reward ourselves with a quick break and a cup of coffee while watching shows such as ‘This Morning’. The lively mixture of studio guests, real life stories, likeable presenters, phone-ins and news means there is something of interest for everyone.
Morning TV will continue but one thing is for certain, it will never be quite the same again without Fern Britton on the sofa.
