The best ways to restyle your sofa!
When a
sofa shows signs of wear, the owner will make a mental note that it will need replacing sooner or later. However, replacing your sofa may not necessarily be the only answer to a weary looking sofa. There are many ways of breathing new life into a sofa, and getting a few more years from it.
Re-vamping a sofa need not cost much; in fact, it’s a good idea for the householder to look around the home to see if they already have blankets or throws that could be used, or fabric that could be turned into cushions, before they decide to spend any money. Failing that, second-hand stores often have throws, curtains, and so on, that could be put to use. If the only alternative is to buy new, checking out the sales and discontinued lines in the stores, may well provide some bargains.
If the covers are worn, they can be replaced professionally or, with a bit of effort, by the householder himself. If they have become too dated, or do not fit in with a room’s new colour scheme, there are many ways of concealing them.
Throws are very fashionable nowadays, and a cheap alternative to new covers. People can make their own, either by knitting, crocheting or sewing them, or they can purchase new from soft-furnishing stores. Quilts, also, lend themselves very well as sofa covers. Both can simply be draped casually over the sofa, or they can be semi-fitted; for example, by taking two matching – or even contrasting – throws, and fitting one over the back, and the other over the seats, tucking the surplus fabric between the cushions, a ‘fitted’ look can be achieved. Alternatively, just re-covering the seat cushions, with a fabric that picks out one of the colours in a multi-coloured sofa, will really transform it. If the sofa is one block colour, contrasting fabric on the seat cushions will have the same effect. Covering only the seat cushions will be a lot less daunting to someone who is not familiar with sewing, than attempting to upholster a whole sofa, and just as effective. If the sofa is a bit tired-looking, simply placing contrasting scatter cushions at the corners will give it a whole new look.
Nowadays, most people are looking for ways to cut down on spending. Replacing a sofa will cost a lot of money; however restyling a sofa can cost very little.
