Extreme spending takes to the sofa world!!
When money is no object, people can indulge their taste for luxury at any time, even for furniture. For the person who has everything, but still retains the yearning for gems, they can even purchase a
sofa that, with the addition of plenty of sparkle, can command a price most people would spend on a brand new family car.
Footballer’s wife, Colleen Rooney, has taken her latest spending to new heights and purchased, for her husband’s former trophy room, a sofa studded with crystals, which matches her £100,000 crystal-embellished wedding dress. Costing £10,000, the sofa was purchased to celebrate her and Wayne’s first wedding anniversary, and is a far cry from the traditional symbol for the first anniversary, paper. Placed in the trophy room, with her wedding dress, it sets the seal on Mrs Rooney’s love of sparkle, and probably sets the theme for future items of furniture. After all, a plain pine coffee table would simply look out of place now.
Of course, sofas do not have to cost the earth. Most people settle for something that won’t need separate insurance, or a second mortgage, to purchase. Designs have changed markedly over the last decade or so, so nowadays, anything goes, whether it is bright multi-colours and prints for a fabric sofa, or leather in every colour imaginable. Long gone are the days of velour or tweed, in any colour you want as long as it’s brown, or black or brown leather, always uncomfortable to sit on, until they found ways of softening it. Designers themselves understand that not everyone who purchases a sofa want something conventional and traditional. People don’t just decorate these days; they ‘theme’ the rooms in their home, and want furniture and accessories to complement their scheme, or even to contrast with it. If that means a crystal-adorned sofa, then so be it. There will always be a designer willing to satisfy the demand.
In days gone by, furniture retailers would have turned down the chance to sell a hot pink sofa, or an armchair in electric blue leather; now, they want to be the retailer that everyone thinks about when they need to purchase a new sofa.
Anything goes with sofas now, and that means that, as long as you have the funds, you can have whatever you want in terms of design, colour, style, and even embellishments. The good thing about spending £10,000 on a crystal-studded sofa is that, already a work of art, it will become a treasured masterpiece as the years go by.
