Enjoy the flexibility that comes with a sofa bed

There are many different sofa beds available that provide a good alternative to a traditional sofa. A sofa bed is the perfect multipurpose must have item of furniture that not only offers extra sleeping space. Sofa beds come in various modern and contemporary designs, a variety of comfortable filling and covered in an array of soft to the touch materials.

Sofa beds can be made from a variety of materials including ones with cotton or polyester covers, suede effect or leather and are also available in many different styles to suit the layout of your room. As well as the traditional two or three seater sofa beds, small chair beds and corner group sofa beds are also widely available . Corner sofa beds can be a great way of utilising the space that you have. The main part of the base simply folds down to create a large rectangular sleeping area.

The basic and least expensive variety of sofa beds have foam mattresses. These are normally small sofa beds and by removing the loose cushions, the seating area folds down to create a mattress which lays on the floor. These are usually designed for occasional use as they are not made for constant wear and tear on them. These are suitable for a guest bedroom or in a child’s bedroom for when friends stay over night.

Clic-clac sofa beds have spring backs which simply click down backwards to form the other half of the sofa bed along with the seating area. These are more durable than foam sofa beds and are more suitable for every day use as a sofa or a bed, perfect for student accommodation.

A futon is another furniture option to consider. Futons are similar to clic-clac sofa beds but have wooden or tubular steel frames which are visible. Futons are suitable for bedrooms, but not really suited to living rooms if you wanted to go for a matching set as you wouldn’t be able to get other sofas or chairs to match. If you are looking to keep a modern look throughout you apartment, perhaps you live in a small modern space, a futon could be the perfect solution as they have a contemporary look and offer solutions to your seating and sleeping arrangements and some have storage drawers underneath them too.

If you need a sofa bed that will be used on a regular basis, both as a sofa and a bed, then a metal action sofa bed should be your first choice. This style of sofa bed is often available as an alternative to regular sofas and chairs in many sofa stores, so are a good choice if you would like a sofa bed in your living room. They work on the same principle of pulling out the seating area, but the mattress is metal action and is not directly lying on the floor. It is held up by the metal legs at the same height as the sofa seats, so it would feel more like a bed than the foam mattress sofa beds.

Remember to consider how often the sofa bed will be used, who will use it the most and which room it is likely to be situated in before making a decision on which sofa bed to buy.
