How Do We Create Our Handmade Sofas?

Our Handmade manufacturing techniques

SofaSofa have been making sofas by hand for over thirty years, in our factory in the gorgeous South Wales Valleys. From the initial design process to the final stages of upholstery, we pride ourselves on our traditional methods and the quality finish they help to achieve. Read on to learn more about our handmade manufacturing techniques.

Before production comes the design. Our in-house design team come up with the ideas for our sofas, taking style and comfort into consideration. They then select the best raw materials to use in production, which are rigorously tested for comfort and durability. sofa frame

Frame making

The skeleton of every sofa, all of our models begin with a quality frame. Our professional frame-makers construct our frames by hand using non-tropical hardwood, ensuring a durable core to every sofa. So durable in fact, we offer a five year guarantee on every one of our frames – so if something goes wrong, we’ll fix it for you. sofa fabric

Fabric cutting

All the fabrics used in our sofas – including leathers, cottons and linens – are cut to each customer’s order in our cutting shop. Our leather cutters select only top grain leather for quality, and thoroughly inspect every inch of leather hide for imperfections. The cut fabrics are then moved to our sewing department, to be transformed from cut fabrics into sewn parts for upholstery. fabric cutting

Once the frame and fabric cutting have been completed, the upholstery stage is where our sofas really come to life. We meticulously cover each customer’s choice of sofa filling with the cut fabrics by hand, ensuring a quality finish. For the finishing touch traditional decorative methods are carried out by hand, including buttoning, pleating, studding, and antiquing. sofa frame making
