Holiday Packing Like an Interior Design Blogger

Share

Summer is the perfect time of year for you to get away from stress and day to day duties, so why not get away in style? So once you've picked and booked your holiday destination... It’s time to get packing!

But here at SofaSofa we’re all about style, so rather than just throwing a few t-shirts in a tired old suitcase, let’s talk about how you can get your holiday packing done just like an interior design blogger. After all, you want to look your best for all of those holiday snaps, right?

Read on to find out our top tips for packing stylishly, so you can look and feel the part on holiday.

The luggage

When you travel, travel in style with some beautiful luggage. While much of the luggage you can find on the high street is pretty run of the mill, designer labels like Louis Vuitton and Chanel offer enviably stylish travel bags and suitcases.

In addition to a gorgeous design, there are certain things that you will want from your luggage cases:

Size
Be honest with yourself; how much space are you going to need? Depending on the length of your holiday it might work better to opt for smaller sized luggage. However, for the all-out getaway, start your self-indulgence early, with a massive suitcase that can fit all your essentials and more. Go big or go home!

Pockets
These are good for storing passports, keys and other items you'll need quick and continuous access to on your journey. If you are using pockets, make sure that they can be zipped up or securely closed to avoid theft or items dropping out along the way.

Straps
Save your hands a hefty load and go for hand luggage that has a strap. Padded ones are better, to prevent your shoulders from getting sore when carrying your bag for long periods. Straps are also great for adding any holiday badges you come across while you're away!

Wheels
Where would we be without the wheeled suitcase? Strolling across the tarmac when you land leaves one hand free for opening your hotel door, and moreover - lugging a heavy case just isn’t glamorous, is it?

The capsule wardrobe

Creating a capsule wardrobe of perfectly coordinated items will make it easier to get ready for any occasion while you're away, while saving on space. There are some essentials you will need for every trip, like a classic pair of black shades, a statement watch, and your favourite fragrance.

But while you're at it, why not create a theme or style for your holiday? There's the classically elegant Audrey Hepburn style, the 40's look of colourful headscarves - or perhaps you could have a look into the style of the country you're visiting, to see if there's a trend that jumps out at you.

The shoes

Pack your favourite pair of shoes. And then pack a sensible pair! And then maybe a few more pairs after that? Depending on how much space you have, the key is to pack the shoes that will offer the most flexibility and outfit possibilities.

Heels
They're beautiful, but there are only so many times you can wear them. For example, they won’t be very helpful on a sandy beach. Only take a plain pair that will go with most of your outfits.

Flats
These are good for casual days and can be practical or dressy, depending on your style.

Flip Flops
Beach shoes, swimming shoes, strolling to the bar shoes - the essential flip flop fits all these situations!

Sneakers
Let's be honest, sneakers are great. They're versatile and will match any outfit, and are sturdier than the flip flop or the flat shoe - so you can wear them while you're out sightseeing or travelling between destinations.

The journey essentials

Pack everything you’ll need for your journey. No pressure! The best way to get organised is to draw up the all-important packing list. Lay everything out before you pack it all up, so you can make sure everything that all the essential items are there. Definitely don't forget the following:

  • Suncream
  • Passport
  • Sunglasses
  • Camera
  • Mobile
  • Purse
  • Make up
  • Important documents

Also consider having a small handbag for travel days. While your suitcase is in the hold, your travel bag can store your essentials like passports, books and keys.

The camera bag

If you are taking a proper camera (as any blogger would), then it’s important to protect the one item that will make your holiday memories last forever. So investing in a decent bag for it is worthwhile. Although you'll be using it a lot, it's always good to have a camera bag to protect the lenses, and reduce the risk of it getting damaged or stolen.

There are plenty of different camera bags to choose from, so you can be sure find one that'll suit your style! Padded sections for your different pieces of camera kit are always a good addition, as these will stop the camera accessories getting bashed as you walk around.

The books

Holidays are the perfect time to sink your teeth into a good read. So pack beautiful books you’ll actually want to read - and be seen reading too.

If you can't decide which book to get going on, check out what titles are trending on Good Reads and stop by a bookshop before you leave to pick up a title or two. Airport bookshops will also stock the latest popular titles, if you leave it right til the last minute.

And relax...

After all that packing, the only thing to do once you've arrived is to enjoy your holiday…

Conclusion

If you want to look the part, whether at the beach or in the city, you have to pack smart to look your best. Happy holidays!
