Striped Sofas

Can you remember stripes ever being out of fashion? Us neither! The humble stripe is a classic motif that’s loved by both the clothing world and the interior design industry, and we can’t see it ever falling out of favour.

Striped Sofa

Investing in a striped sofa is a great way to provide interest to your living space. And if you were wondering just why you should choose a striped sofa, well, here are a few answers to that question!

4 reasons to choose a striped sofa

1. Striped sofas work in both traditional and modern spaces

Because the stripe is such a classic design, it will look right at home in a period property or a vintage style home; but the stripe also works really brilliantly in modern spaces. Narrow stripes tend to look more traditional, whereas thicker stripes lend themselves well to a modern look.

That being said, you could easily mix and match with the stripe width and the rest of your décor to create a stunning contrast. A sofa in thick stripes and bold colours would add a pop of modernity to a traditional room, while a pin stripe sofa in traditional dark blues, reds or greens would look awesome in a modern space if paired with a couple of pop art scatter cushions or a bright throw.

2. Striped sofas can pick out surrounding colours

If you want to make a certain accessory or feature in your room pop, then a great way to do that is to draw out the colour by placing a striped sofa in that area. Choose stripes that match the colour of the feature in question, or which are in the same colour family, to draw attention to your beloved ornament or feature wall.

And the best thing about a striped sofa, is that if the colour is particularly bold and you’re worried it will overwhelm the space, you can choose a sofa that features both coloured and neutral stripes together to ensure the finished look is well balanced.

For instance, electric blue would look fantastic against white or cream stripes, and you’d be able to pick out that lamp or vase without swamping the space in colour.

3. Stripes allow you to mix and match

There are so many options with stripes that we probably don’t have the space to list them all here. Of course you can choose to go with horizontal or vertical stripes; narrow or thick stripes; uniform or varying stripes; and as many colour combinations as you’d like.

But perhaps the most fun aspect is that you can play around with accessories to create lots of different looks with your sofa. Maybe you want to focus on the colours – choose plain or striped scatter cushions or throws that match, or are in the same colour family as your sofa.

Or perhaps you want to play with the width of the stripe – you could choose accessories in different colours, but which feature the same thickness of stripes as your sofa; or perhaps keep the colour matching, but choose narrow-striped cushions to contrast with your thick-striped seating.

There are plenty of different ways to use stripes in your accessories, and choosing a striped sofa offers lots of ideas for how you can freshen up the living space simply by switching up the scatter cushions or throws, and still create a wonderfully co-ordinated look.

4. Striped sofas work well in lots of different rooms

The fresh, modern-yet-classic look of a striped sofa, and its brilliant versatility, means that the style lends itself incredibly well to a range of situations. A navy and white striped sofa would look beautiful in a seaside-themed guest room, for instance, and make your guests feel incredibly comfortable and welcome.

Meanwhile, the conservatory could also benefit from the addition of a striped sofa, perhaps in subtle creams and pastels to create a smooth transition to the great outdoors. And in the dining room, a striped sofa would add a comfortable, relaxed, after-dinner seating area that would fit in beautifully with its surroundings.

And, of course, there’s the living room, where you can afford to make a real statement with the stripes of your sofa if you wish, as it will most likely be the key furniture piece in the room.

Which striped sofa should you choose?

We’ve got a great range of striped sofas here at SofaSofa, and we’re constantly updating our stock, so you’re sure to find the perfect sofa for your space and tastes!

The newest addition to our striped sofa family, the Newport, already a bestseller in our loose cover sofas, is now available in a beautiful striped design. Featuring modern, wide stripes and narrow pinstripes, the Newport offers a fresh, modern look, which still manages to feel traditional.

What’s more, both the outer covers and cushion covers are fully removable and washable at 30°C, which makes this option perfect for a family with small children – or anyone who happens to be a little prone to spillages!

The heavy gauge serpentine seat springing and hollow fibre seat and back cushions ensure that the sofa is wonderfully comfortable for the whole family, too, and the range also features both two- and three-seater sofas, plus a sofa bed, armchair and footstool to complete the look.

Available in the following colours:

  • Capri Blue Stripe
  • Capri Lichen Stripe
  • Capri Light Grey Stripe
  • Capri Wine Stripe

Windsor Sofa

Yellow Striped SofaWindsor 3 Seater Sofa in Windsor Gold Stripe

This sofa certainly lives up to its regal name. With rolled arms and a gorgeously curved back, the Windsor is made even more sumptuous thanks to the super soft chenille covering. Featuring heavy serpentine seat springing, moulded foam seat cushions and hollow fill fibre back cushions, this sofa is comfortable enough to provide a seat for the Queen herself.

The seat and back cushions are fully reversible, too, so the sofa can last twice as long as you might expect, meaning that it’s a wise investment for those of us who don’t actually live in a palace. The range includes a three seater sofa, two seater sofa, armchair, high backed chair, chaise footstool and bench stool.

The narrow stripes add to the traditional look of this sofa, but it’s versatile enough to work beautifully in a contemporary space – add a couple of modern scatter cushions and a bold throw for instant wow factor.

Available in the following colours:

  • Windsor Blue Stripe
  • Windsor Burgundy Stripe
  • Windsor Chocolate Stripe
  • Windsor Cream Stripe
  • Windsor Gold Stripe

  • Coffee stripe
  • Cream stripe

Barolo Sofa
